FCTS DCAP
What is a DCAP (District Curriculum Accommodation Plan)?
- Required by MA law (Ch. 71, Sec. 38Q½, 59C).
- Guides teachers in supporting diverse learners.
What is the purpose of the DCAP?
- Support teachers with strategies and resources
- Identify general ed supports and interventions
- Provide a list of accommodations (choose a few strategies that will help the student)
- If you need assistance in choosing some DCAP accommodations, please contact student services/guidance.
Accommodations do not change curriculum/expectations. Examples include:
- Setting: small group, seating, quiet space
- Presentation: visuals, models, repeat info
- Timing: extended time, chunking, flexible schedule
- Response: graphic organizers, tech, alternative tools
When do I refer to the Student Support Team (SST)?
- Teachers first try some DCAP strategies + notify parents
- Consult guidance if issues persist (counselor referral)
- Submit SST Referral Form if a student continues to struggle for more than 2 weeks, despite DCAP strategies and counselor intervention.
