Girls Basketball is a Winter Sport that begins the Monday after Thanksgiving. The regular season typically ends during February Break. Being a Vocational School, our student athletes have the potential to qualify for and play in two postseason tournaments, the MVADA Vocational Tournament and the MIAA Sectional Tournament.
No experience or skill is required to participate but there is a tryout process as only a limited number of athletes can participate. Athletes will be selected for the team based upon the coach's evaluation process.
Franklin County Technical School does not require fees from team members. It is recommended that the only equipment for each athlete to purchase is a quality pair of basketball sneakers.
The general expectation is that student athletes will be participating 5-6 days per week during the season. This will also include occasional Saturday or Sunday dates that will be communicated with as much advanced notice as possible. Typical practice sessions are two hours in duration and times will vary based upon gym availability and sharing with other Winter Sports teams. These will be communicated as far in advance as possible and are always subject to change. Early practice times are 3pm-5pm with a little time to free shoot before practice and late practice times are 5pm-7pm with a little time to free shoot after practice. JV Games are typically scheduled for 5:30pm and Varsity Games typically start at 7pm
At the Varsity level, the team will play the student athletes that demonstrate a positive attitude, maximum amount of effort, commitment and dedication to practice sessions, and the highest level of ability. Playing time is the coach's discretion and is non-negotiable. Athletes earn their role based upon the coach's evaluation of practices and game situations. At the JV level, playing time is distributed more fairly among participants as JV is more of a developmental level. Playing time is still determined by the above listed factors with the emphasis that "fair" does not necessarily mean "equal" playing time. Our Girls Basketball team currently is aligned in the Tri County North League, in the PVIAC.
