The Guidance Office is a part of the Department of Student Services at the Franklin County Technical School. We are committed to providing appropriate personal, vocational, and career-counseling services supporting each student's ability, interest, and motivation. We seek to create an environment in which personal growth and opportunity to occur for our students. The counseling staff cultivates and emphasized the skills necessary for good citizenship, productive social behavior, and success on the job. Counselors assist students with their post FCTS plans, including career guidance, placement in colleges, technical schools and the workforce. Involvement with parents during this process is strongly encouraged. Guidance counselors meet with students to discuss attendance, behavior issues, and academic and shop performance.

Are you interested in going to College after high school? Not sure if you'll be ready to attend after graduation? Then take the PSAT this October!

If you have questions or would like to register for the PSAT, please contact Ms. Canfield or Mrs. McCarthy, whomever is your school counselor, in the Guidance office.
For Students who want to apply for Financial Aid through the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year, please note: FAFSA will not open for applications until January 1, 2024. Keep in mind:
The CSS
You can still file the CSS (which identifies student financial need, but for loan programs other than the typical Federal programs). Check with the schools you may want to apply to - most will not ask you for the CSS, only the FAFSA.
The FSA ID
Applications for a FSA ID will be open on October 1, 2023. Both students and parents who will be signing the FAFSA are strongly encouraged to apply for the FSA ID. The FSA ID allows you to import information from other sources (such as previous year's FAFSA forms) and makes signing and submitting your application easier.
You can apply for a FSA ID here: create an FSA ID.
Get ready for FAFSA
While the application won't open until January, you can get yourself ready to apply. Get your FSA ID, then start the FAFSA worksheet. The worksheet tells you what financial information you will need for the application, and help you stay organized until it is time to apply.
You can access the worksheet here: https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/2023-24-fafsa-worksheet.pdf
