English Teachers
Biographies
Jeremy Mailloux (My-you) is a committed life-long learner, who arrived at teaching after years of other pursuits. He has been a lifeguard, camp counselor, backpacking guide, landscaper, theater technician, carpenter, and timber-framer. He has lived in California and Vermont and the furthest he has traveled (outside of a book) is Ireland.
Mr. Mailloux entered teaching through a one-year immersion Masters Program through UMASS, the Bridges to the Future program where he taught at Greenfield High School while doing his graduate work. Like students at FCTS, he learned his trade in a "hands-on" manner. Mr. Mailloux started off his post-graduate career teaching at Smith Vocational in Northampton, and as a recovering carpenter, fell in love with the challenges of teaching English and literature to vocational students. As a resident of Franklin County for over 20 years, he jumped at the chance to join the faculty here at FCTS, as this is his "school of choice." Since 2013, Mr. Mailloux has taught all grade-levels and AP Literature in the 12th grade. He also advises the school's Gender and Sexuality Alliance, SAGA,, and facilitates meetings and curriculum for the English Department. He knows intimately how the analytical and problem-solving skills, communication skills, and the "big ideas" explored in literature can aid a student in career and in life outside of school.
Outside of FCTS, Mr. Mailloux lives in Shutesbury with his wife, children, two dogs, two cats, and 12 chickens. He enjoys poetry, hiking, biking, snowboarding, woodworking, cooking, and helping his ten-year-old tinker with his 1968 Cub Cadet Garden Tractor.
