Advanced Manufacturing Student Scores a Seat on MA Girls In Trade Council

Jill Deady, Franklin County Technical School Advanced Manufacturing student, has successfully secured a prestigious spot on the Massachusetts Girls in Trades Leadership Council.

This is a highly selective, state-level position that required a comprehensive application and multiple strong recommendations. Deady’s dedication, evident also in her role as Secretary of the FCTS Tradeswomen of Tomorrow club, has truly paid off.

This appointment is a fantastic recognition of her hard work, leadership, and commitment to the trades and school community. Deady, who lives in Greenfield, is one of only five students from high schools across the state to hold a position on the Massachusetts Girls in Trade Leadership Council.

A junior starting in September, Deady said the organization hosts events throughout the school year, including three main ones for schools in western, central and eastern Massachusetts.

"I'm really excited that I was chosen to be a member of the Leadership Council," she said. "I'll get to travel across the state and talk to and encourage girls who are interested in the trades. Females are underrepresented in the trades and I'll also be able to build connections with people who can help me in my field."

Nicole Miller, Advanced Manufacturing teacher, said Deady is one of the hardest working students she's ever taught and spends whatever time that’s needed to master skills to advance her knowledge and skills. Miller added that having Deady on the Leadership Council will also enhance the knowledge and skills related to her trade.

"It will be important for her to help her grow as a young woman in the field," she said. "Giving her a voice on the Leadership Council for our small community here at the tech school will also be important."
