Tech Connect: the FCTS summer program

July 13-16 -- For students going into grades 6 to 8.

  • Intro to Blacksmithing -- Taught by an FCTS Welding teacher/ blacksmith who has taught these skills to Boy Scouts and other youth. This is an introduction to blacksmithing. Students will heat, forge, and shape steel to make varying projects including BBQ forks, fire poker, hooks, plant holders, etc. (This is an AM & PM class)
  • Recreational Games & Activities -- This class is a combination of gym class and recess together making a fun and active program. This program is taught by a licensed FCTS Physical Education Teacher and Coach. This class is only offered during the AM.
  • Cooking for Kids -- Hands-on learning using food prep, math, and sanitary skills to create family favorites like lasagna, quesadillas, and more.  This class is only offered during the PM.
  • Pickleball Academy: Master the Court -- Students will dive into all aspects of pickleball, from mastering basic techniques like serving, dinking, and volleying to developing advanced strategies for positioning and shot placement. Students will learn various drills and real-game scenarios, emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of having fun while learning.  This class is only offered during the AM and PM.
  • Expeditions -- Enjoy daily trips to locations in Franklin County that make our Western Massachusetts home a special place: hiking, mountain top summits, historic sites, unique areas and general exploration will be our destinations. Some journaling and the construction of a photo album will complete our week-long journey. (This is an AM & PM class)
  • Creating Digital Comics -- A former Marvel Artist teaches storytelling, character and environment in making a comic story. These will then be posted online as a digital comic.  We will also create an Animated Cartoon using Canva!  (This is an AM & PM class)
